About Baddogtavern
The Door People Actually Use
Baddogtavern works on garage doors across Huntington Beach from Beach Blvd, in the 92649 ZIP. Most of our work is unremarkable: openers, springs, rollers, the usual list. What we have ended up specialising in is the households where the garage door is not a side entrance but the main one.
That is more homes than people assume. A garage gives you a level path indoors, no steps at the front, and shelter between the car and the kitchen. For anyone who has stopped enjoying stairs, that is the route they take every time.
Why It Changes the Job
Once the garage is the main way in, the door has moved from convenience to infrastructure. The usual fallback, pulling the release cord and lifting by hand, stops being available. So the parts we would normally call optional become the parts that matter: the battery backup, the second control, the keypad outside.
We would rather set those up on a quiet afternoon than talk somebody through them on the phone during an outage.
How We Talk About It
Plainly, and without making anyone feel fragile. A heavy door is heavy. That is a fact about the door, not a judgement about the person. Most fit adults overestimate what they could manage with a disconnected door, so this is not a conversation about decline. It is a conversation about a hundred and fifty pounds of steel and where the sensible plan sits.
We also say when nothing needs doing. A five year old opener with a good battery and a working keypad is fine. Come back to it next year.
What We Will Not Do
We will not sell a new door to solve an opener problem, and we will not recommend a system nobody in the house can operate. If a suggestion only works when somebody young is home, it is not a solution, it is a rota.
